Let's Go Fly a Kite

Last week the sun was shining so we decided to get out of the house and have some fun. It was still cold, but we decided to go and fly some kites. There wasn't too much wind, but we went over to Cherry Hill Park where it's always windy and found enough wind to get the kites up. The kids had a lot of fun and it was nice to get outside. I'm just hoping for some warmer weather so I don't go crazy cooped up indoors.

When Jeremy was growing up the joke with his family was that every morning he would say "Where are my keys? Where are my books?" Not much has changed he is always on the hunt for his keys and his phone. I think that being married to him I have become more like him (forgetful that is). I have a tendency to leave my stuff at the Stony Point Y. In the past few months I have left my phone, keys, clothes and most recently my shoes there. I'm sure when I come to claim my stuff they must just roll their eyes and think I'm so spacy. Although I am proud to admit that I have not left my children there....yet.

Spring break is over and I'm pretty glad. Price and Brynlee love to argue over the lamest things. Last night on the way home from Price's soccer practice Brynlee said that she saw a barn. Price didn't believe her and they argued about if she really did see one or not. Then Price said "Maybe you saw a shed". Then that caused a whole other thing. I swear those two love to argue for the sake of arguing. Luckily Price is in school so now I only have to hear it for a little while at night.

Spring Break

Price made this sign for his room. He did it all by himself. I'll interpret so it makes sense. He wrote "Kylee. Brynlee. No She. Just Mom." It makes me laugh everytime I see it. He used words he knew how to spell, so now he tries to enforce the no girls allowed, but it hasn't worked too well yet.

Not too much going on here this week for Spring Break. We've just been hanging around keeping busy.

On Monday we went to Morgan Creek Arboretum. It's pretty close to our house and so beautiful. A friend told me about it and I'm glad she did. I'm excited to see how pretty it is once the trees start blooming. There is a trail that goes all around it and the kids had a great time running around and getting rid of some of their energy. There's a pond and the kids had fun throwing rocks into it. I had fun seeing all the different trees. The kids were hoping to see a skunk, but I'm glad that we didn't.

We've also gone to the library for story time, McDonald's playland and of course the YMCA. The kids had some friends over to play on Tuesday and we've watched Scooby Doo a few times. Nothing too exciting, but it's been nice to hang out and just be relaxed. The kids have been sleeping in too which has really made this a Spring Break for me too (Wahoo!)

Now if only the weather were a little warmer, but at least I've been able to get my spring cleaning done and not been distracted by warm weather.

Spring and Things

Spring is in the air around here. We've been able to get out and about and have some family walks lately. It is one of our favorite things to do when the weather gets nice. The kids have also enjoyed riding their bikes and playing outside. Yeah for spring!

This is the dresser that I found at the Goodwill for $16. After A LOT of sanding and some painting and new hardware it is ready for use.

This week we moved the girls into the same room. I wasn't planning on doing it so soon, but we've had some modesty/flashing issues so we decided to do it now. It's worked out great. I de-junked a TON and am feeling more organized. The girls love sharing a room and it's going better than I expected it to. Price is the one having a hard time, though. He won't admit it, but he's a little lonely now. I think he misses having his sister to keep him company.

This week I turned the big 3-0. Wahoo! Jeremy took 2 days off from work. You'd think this would mean big fun, but no. On my birthday we went and worked out and I had a visiting teaching appointment after. He went and had lunch with Price at school. Then we got some Sonic drinks and played at the park. Jeremy did make a great steak dinner for us and he got a Key Lime Pie for dessert. I've decided that having pie instead of cake and ice cream just shows how old you really are. What kid whats pie for their birthday? Answer: None, they want cake with miles of sugary frosting and a huge scoop of ice cream. But I guess I'll take the pie because I'm trying to eat less sugar (another sign that I'm getting old!)

Jer got me a nightstand and some lamps for our room. He has a nightstand, but I wanted one on my side of the bed and we are both so lazy at night that neither one of us wants to get up to turn the lights off. So now we don't have to. And now we don't have piles of books everywhere. I also got some Idle Isle nutballs from my friend Kylee. If you are from BC then you know how awesome they are, I sure miss them so it was nice to have a box of them to myself. They sure didn't last long.
My mom got me a CD of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' since my copy is a tape from the mid '80s.

The day after my birthday Jer and I went to lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings (B-Dub if you prefer) and it was great! I have been craving that place like crazy. They have these boneless wings and you get the Parmesan Garlic sauce...Super good! Now I just need to find another occasion for us to go get some more.

Overall a good birthday. I had to enter my age in as '30' today on the eliptical at the gym. It was a little weird, but at least I'm working out so hopefully I won't look like I'm 30.

Nursery

It's a big day here at our house. Today was Kylee's first day of nursery. I think Jeremy's been looking forward to this the most. He's been good about taking Kylee when I have to teach so he was glad to be by himself today. He said he can finally get his scriptures out and follow along and that he can pay attention and get something out of church.
After sacrament meeting I took her over to nursery. She ran right in and went to have a snack. I checked on her a couple of times, but she was having fun and was a a very good little girl. It was a great day for all!

We've had a super busy week. And by we I mean me. I had Relief Society, Cub Scout Committee, cleaned the temple and Bunco. Every night either Jeremy or I were gone with something. It was nice to have some time with out the kids, but hopefully there won't be so much running around this week.

On Friday I went with two other girls and we drove down together to clean the temple. We stopped in Burlington and had dinner at Carlos O'Kelly's. I ate way too much, but it was a fun night and a good excuse to have a girls' night. Cleaning the temple was pretty easy. I did a little vacuuming, some chatting and a little dusting, nothing too hard. It's not too bad when you get to vacuum the Celestial Room. Although you do feel a little sacreligious doing it. Our husbands planned this outing for us. I think they were bored one day after church and conspired to make their wives more social, but we didn't mind. I think we might have to do this again next time our ward has a turn to clean the temple.

Last night was my monthly Bunco night. Always a good time. I was thinking about this group on the way home. We are quite the diverse group of people. From 20-somethings up to 70-somethings. Some are married, some single, some with kids and grandkids, some without. But once a month we love to get together and have fun. It's not about the game because if you've ever played Bunco it's super easy and not much to it. It's about getting together, eating and laughing and having a good time. Enjoying Amanda's yelling and funny voices, Wendi rolling her eyes at Amanda's antics, Lisa and her sweaty palms and me being way to slow to grab the dice when someone yells "Bunco" (I came in dead last). It's always a riot and so much fun to be able to see people kick backed and relaxed. Love playing with the "Bunco Babes".

Recipe

We are alive here! Kylee and I have been a little sick, but we're both feeling better. Nothing serious, just the pesky cold that lingers far too long.

We had a great Sunday today. We had stake conference and it was broadcast from Salt Lake. It's nice that the kids are getting older and slowly getting better about sitting through church. Kylee still doesn't make it too long without having to take her out, but I can see that there is hope. One day we will sit through church without me having to take someone out for misbehaving; I can only imagine. I'm sure then I'll have to get after the kids and make sure they aren't asleep. But at this point I wish they would just go to sleep and give me a few moments of peace.

I made this great dessert today. It was super easy and so yummy. You know me and my love of anything Aldis. I got this recipe from their ad back during the holidays. I finally tried it out today and it's one I will definitely make again. You just throw everything in the pan and cook, my kind of dessert. You can add nuts, but in my opinion many a good dessert has been ruined by the addition of nuts (sorry mom). So in my case these are 6-layer bars (not 7 like the recipe says).

6 Layer Bars

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup coconut
1 can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350. Put in 13x9 pan and put in oven to melt. (I just put it in while the oven heated up and it was all melted by the time the oven was ready). Swirl butter around bottom and sides of pan to coat. Pour graham cracker crumbs over butter. Top with chocolate chips, then butterscotch chips, and coconut. Pour sweetened condensed milk over top. Cook for 25 minutes.

So easy! The only work was making the graham cracker crumbs. And if you just bought graham cracker crumbs there would be no work involved at all.
