Lazy Sundays

This year we have church at 1pm which I love because it means we can sleep in and I don't have to wake up super early for my meetings.  Today is Fast Sunday so there are no meeting and I get to be even lazier.  Here's why I love it so much.

The girls playing games together.
Jeremy and Price playing a wild game of chess on my tablet.
I love my family and I especially love when we get to spend time being together.

Snow Day

We've had a lot of snow days and late start days in the past few weeks due to snow and super cold temps.  So here's a brief look at what we do when stuck in the house all day.

Price of course can be found on the computer either playing games or watching movies.
The girls wanted to be chefs and made some spider cupcakes.  Brynlee made the cupcakes by herself and then they frosted them to look like spiders.  And of course when you decorate cupcakes you have to be dressed up too.

Later on the girls put on their "workout" clothes and Brynlee was pretending to be the fitness instructor and leading Kylee through a fitness routine.

Silly girls

These silly girls love to take pictures of each other.  This must have been last Sunday morning when mom and dad were sleeping in and enjoying a lazy morning.

Pinewood Derby

Now that Price is in Cub Scouts we are now involved in the yearly tradition of the Pinewood Derby.

Our hopes weren't too high for his car considering Jeremy is not an engineer and has no experience building things, but he and Price had a good time building the car together.
Price brought his bud Drake to the race.  Price's car was black with a gold dollar sign on it.  He has decided that this is now his official sign.  Silly boy.
Price and his car in action.

He did better than expected and came in 4th place.  Not too shabby for this being our first year doing it.  Although I am very surprised at how involved some people get into this. You can drop a lot of cash on trying to make your car fast.  My favorite was the kid who left his in the original block of wood.  He didn't do too bad either.  My annoyance is that dad's who do it all for the boys instead of letting it be the boy's project.

A fun night enjoying a new tradition.

Winter Kickball

What do you do in Iowa in January when it's snowy and super cold?  Play in an outdoor kickball tourney of course.
I was a little skeptical at first, me not being a big lover of frigid temps.  But we actually had a really good time.
It was a co-ed tourney and they needed at least 3 girls so Anne, Emmaly and I were there token women.
They guys set up a little shelter for us complete with a fire and propane heater.  My feet were really cold during the first game, but that was because I had too many socks on.  I took one pair off and was toasty the rest of the day.

It was really fun, the in field was really icy and trying to kick and run with so many layers was a little treacherous.  Anne was our star second baseman and really took one for the team.  She got kicked in the head when someone tried to jump over her to get to 2nd.  Someone else slid into the base and knocked her over.  She also broke her middle finger when fielding a grounder.  Poor Anne, but I think she had a good time.

Emmaly and her bum knee didn't fair any better either.  But she has recovered by now, who knows if they will be up for playing again next year.

The star of the team was Jeremy at first base.  He did an awesome job.  As usual he was super competitive and made the Hodson family proud.

Most of the people playing in this tournament were too old to be there.  One guy kept getting hurt every time he came up to kick, but every inning he kept coming up.  I guess he's dedicated to his sport.

A lot of people were drinking and by the later games were having trouble fielding the ball.  One guy playing 3rd base for the other team kept letting balls roll right past him.  It was an advantage for our non-drinking team.

A great day spent with our friends.
